Peoplespeak began in 1989 as a group of musicians writing tracks inspired by innovative Jazz-Fusion albums by Miles Davis, Weather Report, John Scofield and The Zawinul Syndicate.

By 1992 Miles Bould and Spencer Cozens had released their 1st record entitled PeopleSpeak with guest musicians: Andy Barron, Dave Lewis, Alan Thompson, Dave Heath and Dominic Miller.

The collective attracted interest in the jazz community due to it’s contemporary sound and close connections with people such as MIKE MAINIERI of STEPS AHEAD. He had heard the album via mutual friends and became excited by a particular track entitled AGITATE THE GRAVEL. He asked for rights to record a version for Steps Ahead. So Miles and Spen went out to New York to co-produce the track with Mike. Using the original percussion, keys, bass and programming, they ended up with a track on Steps Ahead Album YIN YANG.
When Rupert Brown and Scott Firth joined, they played at the Edinburgh Festival and many small gigs around the South of England.
One of the tracks called Rain, featuring bass player Alan Thomson, was used for a German Album honouring Jaco Pastorious.
Bill Oddie, a DJ for Jazz FM at the time, played tracks from the album released on Jazz label New Note.

The band members became busy working with other artists; Spencer Cozens with JACQUI McSHEE, JOAN ARMATRADING and JOHN MARTYN. Scott with STEVE WINWOOD and Miles with STING, JOHN MARTYN and various studio albums. They had the luxury of spreading the recording of their 2nd album GRACENOTES over a period of 5 years, completing and pressing the album at the end of 2004. The promotion for this album coincides with the guys resuming recording for Peoplespeak in 2004 and a 3rd album is near to completion.
