Groove4dayz is the home of all we do within the world of music and other media.
This is what we’re up to at the moment.
MamaYo is in rehearsals readying themselves for gigs at small club venues in and around London. They aim to be ready for shows in the Autumn, we’ll keep you posted as things develop. The MamaYo band consisting of Miles, Yo and Scott, will be supporting other artists for live gigs as well as performing material from the 1st MamaYo Album.
You may catch an excerpt of a MamaYo track “Born to Love” which was used for a scene in a Kaleidoscope Entertainment film; “American Daylight”, Directed by Academy Award winner Roger Christian, known for his art direction in films such as Alien. The film stars Nick Moran, (Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels) and Koel Purie, with Gulsham Grover, Vijay Raaz, Gary Kemp and Paul Usher. The music supervisor, Paul Spong and Director Roger Christian chose “Born To Love” featuring Carleen Anderson, who along with Yolanda, also appears in the scene for which the song was used. Yolanda was in the producer’s chair for the scene and Carleen was in the vocal booth enacting the recording of the lead vocal. The producer said he had tears in his eyes listening to her sing the vocal as she always sings fully when performing to play-back. The director liked Carleen so much, he gave her a spontaneous speaking part in the film, which may or may not make the final cut as you really never know until the final edit, but Carleen and Yolanda both said it was a great experience. The film will be released late 2004.
Yolanda has just recorded bass with Dave Stewart and Mick Jagger for the soundtrack for the remake of “Alfie” starring Jude Law. She says the experience of working with the legendary Mick Jagger was beyond all of her expectations. “I turned up at studio 2 in Abbey Road expecting just a normal recording experience. I had no idea whether I would actually get to meet Mick Jagger as it’s quite common for the artist to do his bit later and you just work with the producers and engineers, but magically we ended up jamming and working parts out for the tracks with Mick and Dave taking part fully in the process as well as just hanging out with the band. The other musicians were in awe of Mick as much as I was as he performed the way only he can every time we did a take. Dave Stewart was inspiring in the role of band leader/producer and played guitar with us as we laid the tracks down as a band. "There were lots of classic moments during our week of recording and I will remember them for a long time”. The other musicians on the session were: Chris Sharrock on drums, Mike Rowe on keys and Ally McErlaine on guitars.
Miles and Scott are working quite heavily within Dime a Dozen producing tracks for various artists. There’ll be track samples to check out as the tunes are mixed. One of the outstanding projects, The Liegeman E.P is being mixed and should be available on the site before Christmas.
The 3rd PeopleSpeak album is sounding great, they have so far recorded 5 tracks, the guys are currently writing the remaining tracks.
Miles is recording his own album called Life, which features Siresh Kumar, Dominic Miller, Scott and Yo. The Liegeman also makes a poetic appearance. The recordings are happening on days off from sessions and all of the other projects he is involved with, so will be completed at a much later date than he would like. However with a little less sleep and no social life at all, it could be with us early 2005.
That’s all for now, we’ll keep you updated about releases and live shows as and when they come in.
