January 2005
Groove4dayz has had a pretty positive start to the year.
This month MamaYo Album THE GAME was chosen as “Album of the Day” by TONY MONSON at SOLAR RADIO who played tracks from the album throughout his morning show.
The response to the site has been great with more people finding about us. Many of you have emailed to ask about bass stuff and to say hi. Keep it coming! We’re inspired to set up a chat room/message board so we can all add a few words and comments, it’s being sorted as we speak.
Thanks to everyone who ordered CDs and downloaded tracks. It’s great to see that word has also begun to spread to Europe and the USA…

Congratulations to DAVE STEWART and MICK JAGGER on their Golden Globe win “best original song” for Old Habits Die Hard from the ALFIE soundtrack. They should have had an Oscar nomination, but it wasn’t to be…… and I had my frock ready an’ all…..

AMERICAN DAYLIGHT premiered in Europe at the London Film festival to a very good reception by film critics. The film now has an Indian release scheduled for April. We’re still awaiting news of a UK release.

Bluey Maunick from INCOGNITO recently organised the recording of a charity single in aid of the Tsunami victims. The project is called HOPE COLLECTIVE and the track is entitled, GIVE AND LET LIVE. It features some fantastic artists and musicians. Chaka Khan, Jocelyn Brown, Steve Winwood, Carleen Anderson, Amp Fiddler and many more. Miles recorded congas for the track with Karl Vanden Bossche and Carlos Edwards making up the percussion crew.

Miles, Scott and myself were in Mike Westergaards’ STUDIO 99 to begin recording the 2nd MamaYo album. This album is definitely heavier on the groove front, with massive drums, fatter b-lines and some crazy shit on guitar from Scotty. I’ve already written most of the album and we’ll be playing the newer stuff as part of the live set. We’ve also joined forces with JOINTTRAX a PR company who also manage AMP FIDDLER. The master plan includes raising the band profile in all ways possible.

The Liegeman project has hit a slight delay, which is currently being sorted out.
Look out for an announcement on the home page when the tracks become available.

We’re bringing out a range of merchandise starting with MAMAYO T-Shirts. These are mainly for selling at gigs, but they will be available to purchase directly from this site. The designs by Simon Heath at ONE SPACEMAN are fantastic, he also designed the groove4dayz.com logo, the G4DZ flash page and the MAMAYO ads we’ve been running in Musician, Straight No Chaser, Blues & Soul etc.

We’re currently lined up to support the PLAYERS. A band put together by Steve White, Mick Talbot and Damon Minchella. I’ve heard their 2nd album and it sounds excellent, some great tunes, the distinctive Steve White groove and this time with vocals. We’ll be announcing venues and dates on the MAMAYO band page.

Last year was a poor year for many people, all I can say is try to enjoy life while you keep it all going…
Perspective is everything.
